Marjoram for Monthlies
Marjoram is a valuable aid to women who suffer from menstrual problems. Use the warming action of this oil to calm period pains and relieve the symptoms of PMS.
Relax your body by stepping into a deep, warm bath containing 4 drops of marjoram oil and 3 drops of chamomile oil. This synergistic blend of soothing oils will calm uterine spasms.
Another method of easing painful menstrual cramps with marjoram is to apply a hot compress made by adding 3 drops marjoram oil and 2 drops clary sage oil to a bowl of hot water. Soak a flannel in this dilution for a few minutes and then rest it on your stomach. Place a hot water bottle on top of the compress to retain warmth.
Balance your mood swings and feelings of agitation associated with PMS with a full body massage. Add 4 drops each of marjoram, lavender and rose oil to 25ml sweet almond carrier oil.
Soothe the Mind
Ease anxiety and tension with marjoram's sedative action. Its calming effect will aid relaxation and dispel tension headaches and insomnia.
Soothe nervous tension headaches by massaging the forehead, neck and shoulders with 4 drops of marjoram, and 2 drops each of lavender and peppermint with 10ml of sweet almond oil. Both marjoram and lavender are relaxing and peppermint offers pain relief.
Dispel insomnia by massaging the soles of the feet each night with 2 drops each of marjoram and lavender oil to 10ml grapeseed oil. These sedative oils are rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream.
Oil for Stiff Muscles
Massage away muscular stiffness, aches and pains and bring movement back to stiff joints or rheumatic joints.
Relax cold muscles before exercise with a brisk rub, adding 4 drops of marjoram oil and 3 drops each of basil and pine oils to 20ml grapseed oil.
Alleviate muscular aches by massaging the affected area with 5 drops marjoram, 4 drops of ginger and 3 drops of vetivert to 25ml sweet almond oil. This remedy is particularly effective for treating lower back pain.
In winter, boost circulation by relaxing in a hot bath containing a blend of warming oils. 2 drops each of marjoram, benzoin and clary sage oils.
After Sports Rub
If your whole body aches after sport, apply a small amount of the following blend to the affected parts, making sure to avoid delicate areas.
20ml grapseed carrier oil
3 drops marjoram essential oil
3 drops black pepper essential oil
2 drops ginger essential oil
Shake well. Use a small amount each time.
After Sports Shower
This is one of the simplest ways to combat the effects of sports exertion. Simply put a drop of pure marjoram essential oil on your washcloth or sponge, put some unscented shower gel on top of this and use it to wash your body. Avoid delicate areas.
Sports Splash
Use this water-based blend after sports to refresh the mind and tone muscles.
10 drops marjoram essential oil
4 drops rosemary essential oil
4 drops lemon essential oil
10ml alcohol (vodka is good)
500ml spring water
Put the essential oils and alcohol in a spray bottle or plant mister. Add the water and shake well before use. Avoid the face, eyes and other delicate areas.
